Expectations
We are a curious people. From the dawn of time, Adam and Eve were curious about that fancy tree and new fruit. Curiosity is natural. Everyday, whether I feel like I can conquer the world or simply just survive, I believe that at least one student wants to learn. My students do not enter the room and say, “It’s me, today. I’m the one that wants to learn.” Therefore, I have to treat them all like they are the ONE that wants to learn. I’ve worked very hard to make every student feel welcome. I feel as if that is the most important part of being a teacher. Nobody will learn from someone they do not feel welcomed.
______________________________________________________ At the beginning of the school year and again at the new semester beginning I give every student the syllabus (attached to the left). During a midpoint in the semester when people start to lose interest, I hand out the contract (also attached to the left) for students to respectfully participate in an activity. I use Remind101, a free texting service, to hold students accountable and remind them of assignments and activities. I work my hardest to keep all rules and consequences consistent throughout the year with every student. |
